The Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) is the leading charity of Hollywood, representing the collective philanthropy of the television and film businesses.
EIF harnesses the power of the entire industry and channels its unique assets to raise awareness and fund critical social issues. Founded in 1942, the industry’s charity was created by Hollywood legend Samuel Goldwyn, with the help of Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, and the Warner brothers, who believed that the entertainment industry was in a unique position to help others.
Most recently, EIF launched its ground-breaking, multi-year iParticipate campaign, which promotes a new way of thinking about service and seeks to motivate millions more Americans to volunteer regularly. As a centerpiece, beginning October 19, 2009, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and other broadcast networks will spotlight service through scripted programming, segments and PSAs during this week-long television event, with more than 70 shows participating. Visit www.iParticipate.org for more information.
EIF is a major force in the fight against cancer, raising critically needed dollars for research and treatment, fast-tracking the most promising science, and generating awareness. Last year EIF co-created the Stand Up To Cancer initiative, which has raised more than $100 million for cancer research to date, primarily in connection with a star-studded, road blocked network live telecast in September 2008 on ABC, CBS and NBC. Stand Up To Cancer recently awarded over $73 million in three-year grants to five multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary research “Dream Teams.” Visit www.SU2C.org for more information.
EIF has several other national initiatives; each raises awareness and significant funds for important social causes such diabetes awareness, creative arts, and education, and environment. Additionally, the organization annually awards grants to more than 300 worthy charities in the areas of children and youth, creative and performing arts, environment, family care, health, hunger and homelessness, and literacy and education.

TakePart.com is a new web platform where people making a difference in the world can tell their stories and more importantly drive people to take action. Recently launched as the official social action hub for Participant Media – the company that helped produce such films as “An Inconvenient Truth”, “Good Night, and Good Luck”, “Syriana”, “Murderball,” and most recently “Food, Inc.” – the site has grown to cover such topics as ocean health, global warming, nuclear proliferation and education. We believe that with the right information and tools for action, individuals can – and will – change the world. To that end, we are thrilled to be providing THE NOBLE AWARDS with a web platform to showcase the dedication, commitment and passion of the organizations they are honoring.
MESSAGE TO NGOS: Congratulations on your Noble Award! TakePart.com is inspired by your hard work and dedication to changing the world. We are thrilled to be offering THE NOBLE AWARDS a platform to showcase your work. Over the last couple of months the site has grown to cover a broad range of topics – from global warming to nuclear proliferation, education, and much more. We also provide a platform where people making a difference in the world can tell their stories and more importantly, drive people to take action. In conjunction with THE NOBLE AWARDS, we’ll be building web pages that feature a 1 minute video about your organization, paired with up to five things people can do to take part in your cause. We will include supporting media and relevant links back to your site. And as part of the Noble program we’ll feature your work throughout the year in conjunction with relevant issues and news. Again, we’re proud to be working with THE NOBLE AWARDS to help shine a light on your important work. If you have any questions feel free to contact Fonda Berosini at fonda@takepart.com or Carolyn Sams at Carolyn@takepart.com.
Look to the Stars is the web’s number one source of celebrity charity news and information, covering what the top stars are doing to make a positive difference in the world. The site includes exclusive interviews and a database where fans can learn about their favorite stars’ good deeds.
Publications and websites such as Celebrity Society Magazine, Think MTV and E! Online come to us for information, and our broad readership includes fans and those working in the non-profit sector.
How we got started
The site was launched in 2006 by a husband-and-wife team, Steve & Myrlia Purcell, and is now the work of a large team of dedicated contributors.
Myrlia wanted to create a site to publicize the many wonderful things that celebrities are doing to help the world. We hope to help charities by inspiring their celebrity supporters’ fans to follow their heroes’ example.
Steve and Myrlia act as senior editors for a talented team of contributing writers, who are located across four continents.
